The Business Office Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hospital’s revenue cycle, including patient registration, insurance verification, coding, billing, and collections. This role ensures optimal financial performance, regulatory compliance, and seamless patient financial experience. The position works closely with Revenue Cycle Director, and finance teams to improve processes and maximize revenue.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in supervising and directing Business Office and end-to-end Revenue Cycle operations across all ClearSky entities, including inpatient services and hospital billing/collections
  • This is a working manager position that will be responsible for the billing and collections process of 1 or more hospitals
  • Oversee front-end and back-end RCM functions, including admission accuracy, authorization processes, charge capture, claims submission, and denial management
  • Ensure timely filing and effective insurance and patient follow-up while monitoring billing, cash accounting, and overall reimbursement processes
  • Manage billing, claims, and work queues for accuracy and completeness; follow up on pending claims and support denial resolution and appeals
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including days in A/R, denial rates, and collection percentages, to drive performance improvements
  • Lead, train, and supervise revenue cycle staff, including A/R follow-up, contractual posting accuracy, and daily operational support
  • Support employee performance management, providing coaching and recommendations for development and improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and revenue capture
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • Support development and maintenance of RCM policies, reporting, and staff training programs

Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in hospital revenue cycle management required
  • 2+ Proven leadership and team supervision experience required
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, and reimbursement methodologies required
  • Experience with in-patient Rehabilitation Hospital billing preferred
  • Experience with hospital billing systems and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance processes required

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge in CMS hospital regulation and reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of payer types in the healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills and communication.
  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution in customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements Over The Course Of a Shift

  • A significant amount of sitting, often for prolonged periods of time
  • Both gross and precise motor functions
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 10 lbs
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to hear overhead pages.
