Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000
About the Opportunity
A leading North American manufacturer and distributor in the industrial storage and organization sector is seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to support transportation and logistics operations across a multi-site network. This organization operates several manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the United States and is backed by a well-established private investment firm focused on operational excellence and growth.
Position Overview
The Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing all transportation and freight activities to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and on-time delivery of finished goods. This role leads carrier management, shipping operations, and logistics performance while partnering closely with production, warehouse, and customer service teams to support customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
Manage inbound and outbound freight across multiple modes, including LTL, FTL, parcel, and brokered shipments
Analyze and optimize freight spend through routing strategies, rate negotiations, and carrier selection
Monitor service levels, transit times, and on-time delivery metrics; implement corrective actions as needed
Manage relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers, including contracts and performance reviews
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and internal transportation policies
Supervise traffic and shipping personnel, including training, scheduling, and performance management
Collaborate cross-functionally with production, warehouse, and customer service teams to align shipping priorities
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce delays, and improve overall logistics performance
Qualifications
Proven experience in transportation, traffic, or shipping management within a manufacturing or distribution environment
Strong knowledge of freight modes, carrier management, and logistics optimization
Experience managing teams and driving performance in a fast-paced setting
Familiarity with transportation compliance and safety regulations
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work onsite and collaborate across multiple departments
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role is primarily based in an office environment with regular interaction on the plant floor or in warehouse settings. Conditions may include varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The position may require standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
