Job Summary: The Janitorial Technician/Groundskeeper will clean, sanitize, and maintain inside and outside campus facilities, while maintaining and caring for the school grounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs general cleaning and sanitizing tasks and services throughout assigned buildings.
  • Uses a cleaning cart to transport cleaning supplies.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, classrooms, kitchens, and dining areas.
  • Sweeps and dust rooms and hallways.
  • Washes furniture, floors, windows, and walls.
  • Scrubs and waxes floor and shampoos carpets.
  • Picks up litter and trash.
  • Ensures building security, locking and unlocking doors for cleaning or special school events after regular hours; checks for unauthorized persons in the building; calls security at opening or closing of the building; checks and locks windows.
  • Wipes and dusts surfaces in rooms and cleans mirrors.
  • Vacuum and clean floors, rugs, furniture, and drapes.
  • Mows lawn with furnished equipment as recommended and assigned.
  • Connects sprinkling equipment and waters lawns, flower beds, shrubs, trees and athletic fields as needed.
  • Adjusts and repairs such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
  • Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse from grounds.
  • Repairs and installs outdoor bleachers, benches, playground equipment, fences, etc.
  • Works on assigned repair and maintenance jobs during inclement weather.
  • Operates equipment, i.e., tractors, snowplows, mowers, and trucks, as required in the performance of duties.
  • Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways and salting using appropriate methods.
  • Maintains appearance and safety of ISI grounds by performing such duties as sweeping and picking up debris.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience in housekeeping
