Program Design Principles
The program is designed around four core principles that reflect MRP's culture:
Real Work, Real Stakes | The legal intern is embedded in active workstreams, not isolated on standalone ‘intern projects’. Output has business impact.
Operator Mindset | MRP is looking for an intern who thinks commercially and can toggle between analysis and judgment. Academic rigor is paired with pragmatism.
Executive Visibility | The legal intern will have at least one touchpoint with the General Counsel and cross-functional exposure to the Legal/Commercial/Strategy teams.
Structured but Lean | The program has defined milestones and a final presentation but is not process-heavy. The legal intern is expected to operate with high autonomy with regular check-ins and oversight from an assigned supervisor.
Legal Department Exposure
The Legal function at MRP is responsible for supporting the company across its Asset Management, M&A and Corporate Strategy, and Commercial departments. The legal intern will help the Legal Department with supporting MRP’s strategic initiatives and commercial strategy across its natural gas, coal, battery storage, and solar assets, while contributing to risk and liability management efforts and initiatives.
The legal intern will support the Legal Department in the following ways:
· Commercial Contracts : Assist with reviewing and drafting complex commercial agreements specific to the energy industry, including by issue spotting and providing practical and actionable advice.
· Transactions & Financings : Assist with legal diligence, document review and drafting, and liaising with internal counsel, outside counsel and MRP business stakeholders in connection with M&A and financing transactions.
· Regulatory : Assist with regulatory research and compliance, including with respect to permitting, development and interconnection matters.
· Corporate Governance : Assist with entity structuring and corporate governance records, and related administration, management and planning initiatives.
· Other : Ad hoc responsibilities and projects as legal and business needs dictate, including learning about interconnection queue challenges, FERC regulations, tax credits and regional grid dynamics.
