Marine Surveyor- Savannah, GA

PRIMARY PURPOSE ** :** To inspect cargo damaged in transit and determine the nature, cause, and extent of damages; to review documents to determine when the cargo was damaged; and to provide written reports to underwriters and other parties with his/her qualified opinion as to the cause of loss.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other forms of transit to document damages as they are loaded and/or unloaded.
  • Inspects damaged ships to determine cause of the damage and amount of damage resulting from collisions or motor failures.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).
  • Travels as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience
Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat or bend.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions.
  • Have the ability to: climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reaching/working overhead.
  • Be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Be able to drive up to 4 hours per day.
  • Must have continual use of manual dexterity
