Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Insulator — Commercial (Full-Time, Benefits)

Position Summary

Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of thermal, acoustic, and corrosion-control insulation on piping, ductwork, tanks, boilers, and equipment at commercial and industrial facilities. Full-time position with benefits. Base wage: $20.00–$28.00/hr (based on experience and certifications).

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometrics, and insulation specifications for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and fit insulation materials for pipes, valves, vessels, ductwork, and equipment.
  • Install jacketing, vapor barriers, weatherproofing, sealants, mastics, and protective coatings; fabricate and install supports, anchors, and hangers.
  • Perform insulation removal, surface preparation, and proper disposal of old/contaminated materials per safety and environmental regulations.
  • Inspect and test completed work to ensure thermal and acoustic performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain accurate job tickets, material records, and time reporting.
  • Follow site safety procedures, use required PPE, and comply with confined-space, lockout/tagout, and fall-protection protocols.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, and other trades to meet schedules and quality standards.
  • Mentor apprentices and assist with on-the-job training as needed.
  • Travel to job sites as required, including occasional overnights stays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, trade school or technical certificate in insulation or related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of commercial/industrial mechanical insulation experience preferred; entry-level candidates considered with a training plan.
  • Familiarity with insulation materials, jacketing methods, adhesives, and fastening techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints and identify plumbing, HVAC & mechanical systems.
  • Proficient with insulation hand and power tools.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs., work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varied environmental conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • OSHA 10 (or 30), confined space entry, and fall protection training preferred or willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions

  • On-site work at commercial and industrial facilities, plants, and construction sites.
  • Exposure to heat/cold, dust, noise, coatings, and adhesives.
  • May require overtime, shift work, travel between sites, and occasional weekend assignments.
