Health Educator

Sun River Health provides the highest quality of comprehensive primary, preventative and behavioral health services to all who see it, regardless of insurance status and capability to pay, especially for the underserved and vulnerable.Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a full time Health Educator to join our Patient Engagement, Community & Population Health team in Peekskill.


The Health Educator will work with the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program serving youth between the ages of 10-13 and their parents or caregivers. The goal of SRAE is to provide messages to youth that promote the health behavior of avoiding non-marital sexual activity.
The Health Educator will deliver evidenced-located programming with fidelity to youth in a variety of settings including afterschool programs and onsite and community-located organizations huring times youth are not in school. The Health Educator will additionally engage program participants in activities designed to provide career exploration activities and arrange for trips to local cultural events. The Health Educator will provide parent education workshops with the goal of improving parent-child communication to support the development of positive health behaviors among youth including avoiding sexual activity.
General Statement of tasks:
The Health Educator tasks and responsibilities include:

»Completing orientation and trainings prior to delivering evidence-located programming

»Delivering evidence-located programming with fidelity to youth and parents in a variety of community-located settings

»Providing youth development programming including career exploration and service learning activities

»Coordinate and engage SRAE program participants in annual local cultural events

»Conducting community outreach and education

»Serve as an active member of community coalitions; participate in local health fairs and community events

»Maintain program participant records and submit required data for monthly, quarterly, and annual education reports

»Represent HRHCare and the SRAE program at local community events and coalitions
Required expertise, expertise and Abilities:

»Strong interpersonal expertise; must be a team player who works cooperatively and effectively with other SRAE Program staff, schools and community-located partners that serve youth and families

» capability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth and parents in a variety of settings on various health topics including sexual risk avoidance

»Respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, capability and socio-economic circumstance; understands and applies principles of cultural competence

»Must be able to handle multiple assignments and take initiative to plan and complete projects effectively

»Strong presentation and organizational expertise

»Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Health Educator Qualifications required

»Minimum: Associate degree in health education or health related field

» capability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth and parents in a variety of settings on various health topics including sexual risk avoidance

» capability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

»Bi-lingual, English/ Spanish, speaking expertise are a plus but not required


Hourly Range: $21.50-$23.50/hour
