Job Description

Job Summary: A Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of a building or facility. They assist in various cleaning and maintenance tasks, ensuring that common areas, restrooms, and surrounding areas are sanitary, presentable, and safe for employees, guests, and visitors. They may also assist in trash removal, replenishing supplies, and other duties related to facility upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Maintenance:
 

  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and polishing surfaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
  • Empty trash cans and replace trash liners throughout the facility.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, handrails, and light switches.
  • Ensure all floors are clean, safe, and free from hazardous debris (i.e., spills, trash).
  • Perform periodic deep cleaning of assigned areas.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor or facilities management.

Safety and Security:

  • Ensure that all cleaning products and tools are safely stored and used according to safety protocols. 
  • Maintain an organized and safe work environment, ensuring that cleaning equipment does not create hazards.
  • Report any safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with all safety guidelines and procedures while performing tasks.

Trash and Recycling:

  • Collect and dispose of waste and recycling in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Ensure trash bins are emptied regularly and maintained in an orderly fashion.

Customer Service:

  • Greet and assist employees, visitors, or guests as needed. 
  • Respond to requests for additional supplies (such as paper towels, toilet paper, etc.) in a prompt and courteous manner.

Restocking Supplies:

  • Monitor stock levels of cleaning supplies and ensure they are replenished as necessary.
  • Report supply shortages to management to ensure uninterrupted service.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, and floor buffers.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and report any malfunctions or need for repairs.

Communication:

  • Maintain clear communication with the site supervisor or facilities manager regarding the status of the facility, cleaning needs, or any issues encountered during the shift.
  • Keep records of any maintenance issues or special cleaning requests that require follow-up
